The high alpine Furka area and Göscheneralp valley with its bizarre rock towers captivate climbers, alpinists, and radiation seekers as well as nature lovers and hikers. They all find active recreation in this eldorado of crystalline rock.

From the rock ledge of the Albert-Heim-Hütte SAC (2543 m), we follow westwards the well-marked mountain trail, which leads us over a plain up on the right to Saas. From Saas, the white-blue-white marked trail leads east through a hollow towards the Blaubergstock, then the route ascends over well-stepped rocky terrain in a bow-shaped manner to the Lochberglücke (2813 m). Here, the Urseren and the Göscheneralp valley merge seamlessly. The chamois change to their winter quarters here.

From the Lochberglücke (2814 m), the route leads downhill to point 2780 m and then right over a ledge down to a flat section. Over scree and boulders, we then descend to the Älpergensee (2510 m) and over rocky, slippery steps to the bridge, where we meet the Göscheneralpsee circular path. Occasionally, goats cross our path.

We follow the circular path along the southern shore of the lake, ascending and descending westwards to the Dammahütte sign. After crossing the Dammareuss (1966 m), the trail rises to 1970 m. Then the hut path turns northwest and winds up over well-made steps until the ridge of Moosstock flattens. There, in a magnificent location with wonderful views, stands the preserved in its original condition Dammahütte SAC (2439 m).

Tip:

The 5-hut panorama route offers a demanding alpine round route in a dreamlike mountain and glacier world. This demanding alpine round route connects five hospitable and inviting SAC huts located in the Göscheneral valley, Voralptal, and Chelenalptal, which offer a variety of services.

Safety guidelines

Mountain hiking is demanding.

For mountain and alpine hiking trails, knowledge of mountain hazards (rockfall, risk of slipping/falling, sudden weather changes) is necessary. Sturdy hiking boots with grippy soles, weather-appropriate equipment, topographic national maps (not just smartphone), compass, and altimeter belong to the basic gear. For alpine hiking routes, additional equipment such as rope, ice axe, and possibly crampons are recommended. Additionally, basic gear includes a pocket first aid kit, emergency blanket, and mobile phone for emergencies.

It is recommended to make a serious tour plan and careful preparation for each hike. The weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Fog can also make orientation difficult even in summer. The biggest danger in summer besides the heat is thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail quickly turn small streams into large rivers, increasing the danger of mudflows and rockfall. Therefore, it is important to interpret the weather forecast when planning tours. Heat thunderstorms often come only in the afternoon, but frontal thunderstorms can occur at any time of day. In general, it is worthwhile to be on the trail early in summer.

Mountain guides or qualified hiking leaders (up to T4) are recommended for alpine hiking routes (white-blue-white marked routes), and hiking leaders for hikes and mountain hikes. They take over the organization and planning of the tours so that guests can simply enjoy the hike.

The Urner Hiking Planner and the Uri Outdoor App help with planning. Through GeoAdmin, many useful information can be found, such as where pastures with herd guard dogs, mother cow pastures, and also wildlife rest zones are located.

Hikers hike at their own risk. The Uri Hiking Trails Association is not liable for accidents that occur during the Uri Alpine Crown hike.
