In recent years, the Glattalp has gained some fame. But no later than at the "Furggele," which separates the Höch Turm from the Ortstock, you immerse yourself in the remote, deserted, and infinitely vast landscape of the Charetalp, where you will almost only encounter sheep.

In winter, there can be up to five meters of snow here, and the temperature drops below -50 °C. In summer, however, the Glattalp becomes an ideal trail running area. Leisure runners take the 7 km long loop around the beautiful Glattalpsee. More ambitious runners head out for the solitary circuit of the imposing rock bastion of Höch Turm. The trails through the endless karst fields of the Charetalp are easy, but the steep climb to the "Furggele" must be earned. The return path leads down steep scree fields to the shore of the Glattalpsee and further to the cozy mountain inn.

Those who want to extend the route can take the ascent to the Glattalp from Sali (plus 700m elevation gain).

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

During the high season and on weekends, long waiting times can occur at the Sali - Glattalp cable car. From noon onwards, you can ride freely, and there is still enough time for a trail run.

Safety guidelines

The north side of the Furggele pass is covered with snow well into the summer.
