From Engelberg train station, the starting point of the bike route to the Brunnihütte, you ride through Dorfstrasse, past the Tourist Center always in the direction of the monastery. After Viktoriagärtli, the park on the left, turn left onto Schwandstrasse. From here, the paved road climbs pleasantly between the houses of Engelberg. When you reach Hotel Waldegg, it’s worth taking a first look over the village and towards the Titlis. Continue on the same road through the forest until the Berggasthaus Schwand comes into view. Here, it is recommended to take a short break before the next ascent. If you missed the break at Schwand and have provisions with you, the picnic spot Spisboden is a nice place to rest. Once you reach the mountain lodge Ristis, it gets more demanding and the surface changes from asphalt to gravel. The natural road winds at the foot of Rigidalstock to Rigidalalp. The small, rustic alp has only a few seats but is well worth a pause. From so close, Engelberg’s local mountain Hahnen can be admired only rarely. After the photos are taken, it’s time to climb and pedal hard again. It takes just a short moment until you see the Brunnihütte SAC with the waving Swiss flag. Destination reached – take off your shoes and onto the tickle path. Around the Herzlisee, the Kneipp path quickly makes the aching feet forget the pain. Take the same route back down into the valley and to the starting point of the route.
