After turning left towards Urmi at Oberried, we can already enjoy a postcard view over Gersau in the gaps. The trail climbs steadily through a somewhat enchanted forest - and suddenly a view over the lake and mountains opens up at Stotzig Urmi. You'll be amazed at how far down the lake is!
An interesting trail then begins at Ober Urmi. It literally goes over hill and dale up to the summit. It is well constructed and secured with ropes in the steeper sections. At the top, the cross of the Vitznauer Stock is on the left and a few meters further on to the right is the cross of the Gersauer Stock. From both peaks we have a breathtaking - but totally different - view, as if we were on two different mountains! Congratulations!
When we can leave this place, we descend towards Fälmisegg, but first turn left towards Wissiflue and on to the Märis bench. Many consider this bench to be the most beautiful in Switzerland. Thomas Widmer writes in the Tagesanzeiger newspaper about this bench: “In its unobstructed position, it enhances the view of the water with the toy sailing boats and the charismatic mountains all around. Hay bugs jump over our shoes, the air is psychedelic, our eyes glaze over. Why legalize cannabis when there is such an intoxicating bench?”
The route continues to Oberrengg and gently descends back to Gersau.
Note:
Attention: ladder on the descent! (See photo.)So that future generations or the hikers of tomorrow can also enjoy the trail, we ask you to take your garbage back with you.
