Lake Sarnen Road Bike Tour

This road bike tour starts in the heart of Sarnen, directly at the village square by the beautiful village fountain. From here, it starts towards Giswil. Shortly after the Peterhof restaurant, you turn right into Gigglenstrasse and after a few meters, the climb begins. The incline is not too steep, but the elevation meters add up steadily. The effort is worth it: during the ascent, there is a breathtaking view of Lake Sarnen – «incredibly beautiful». At the end of Gigglenstrasse, there is a driving ban, and for a short stretch, the bike must be pushed. A short walk loosens the tension in the lower and upper legs caused by the climb. After crossing the Schwandbach, you get back on the saddle; a short descent follows. But soon the next climb calls. On the left, you always have the shimmering Lake Sarnen in view.

Now follows a longer descent towards the forest. Here you turn right, first crossing the Gerisbach, then the Steinibach, before continuing towards Giswil.

Now you have two options: those who want it a bit more relaxed stay on the main road. Those who still have strength in their legs can ride an additional loop via the Bergstrasse – the view over Giswil is definitely worth the extra effort!

From Giswil, the route continues along the lake towards Sachseln. At Edisried, you leave the main road, cross the Wissibach, and turn left towards Rüti Mattli. Here there are again two possibilities: turning left leads directly back to Sarnen. Those who haven’t had enough yet take the right turn and follow the ascending road to Flüeli-Ranft. From there, it goes via Kerns back to Sarnen.

This beautiful round trip can be flexibly adjusted – whether for pleasure riders or sporty challengers. It is also perfectly suitable for mountain bikes and e-mountain bikes.
