The family-friendly hiking trail starts in the idyllic village of Realp with 160 inhabitants. From the station of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway, you head towards the Witenwasserental. Along the way, you pass the station of the historic Furka steam railway. Just a few meters later, the path leads right at a larger junction in front of the Furka steam railway depot. From there, it goes up the mountain to the Furka Pass. On the way, hikers pass old mountain huts, green meadows, the historic Furka Pass road, and the impressive route of the Furka steam railway. At the pass height, there's a place to stop at the Furkablick restaurant. For the way back, you can then take the PostBus to Realp.

Directions & Parking facilities
You can reach the starting point Realp directly by car from various directions. This can be from Central Switzerland via Schöllenen/Andermatt, over the Oberalp Pass, from Ticino via the Gotthard Pass, or from Valais via the Furka Pass.
Day parking spaces are marked in front of the village (MGB area / Grotto Stella d'Oro) and on the village square and can be used for a fee between 06:00 and 24:00. More information: Realp Municipality
The starting point Realp can be reached by train of the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway from Andermatt or Oberwald. The timetable is as follows: SBB timetable

Hikers should keep an eye on the weather forecast in advance, as the hike is partly above 2000 meters above sea level, and therefore, in extreme cases, light snowfall can occur. Appropriate clothing or éventual cancellation of the hike should be considered.
