An easy circular hike and ideal family outing from Realp to the smallest village in Switzerland, Zumdorf, and back.

From Realp train station, you hike on the right valley side along the roller-ski trail and later the hiking trail to the smallest village in Switzerland, Zumdorf. The restaurant Zum Dörfli - Naturstubä is perfect for a refreshment before you change the valley side and walk past the gravel works. You then take the path back to Realp. The path to Realp runs along the Furkareuss and during the hike you will discover the unique floodplain landscape with diverse birdlife, and if lucky, you may even spot marmots. A small detour from the path to the Reuss river is worth it for a short break. Passing lush meadows and surrounded by impressive mountain ranges, you reach the other side of the small village of around 150 inhabitants. From the large parking lot at the village entrance, you return to the train station where the route started.

Directions & Parking facilities

You can reach the starting point Realp directly by car from various directions. This includes from Central Switzerland via the Schöllenen/Andermatt, over the Oberalp Pass, from Ticino via the Gotthard Pass, or from Valais via the Furka Pass.

Day parking spaces are signposted in front of the village (MGB area / Grotto Stella d'Oro) and on the village square and can be used for a fee between 6:00 a.m. and midnight. Further information: Municipality of Realp
