Cozy snowshoe route from Rothenthurm via Ruchegg to Trachslau. Dreamlike views and landscapes await you!

For two to three hours you hike through untouched snowfields with glittering views, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The start is located at Oberdorfstrasse in Rothenthurm, from where you climb about 300 meters in altitude to Ruchegg, then take on the descent (again about 300 meters altitude) to the Tändli restaurant in Trachslau. The path can also be done in reverse.

Equipment

Recommended equipment for snowshoe hikers:

  • Snowshoes, winter shoes (good hiking boots), depending on weather conditions wind jacket, sweater, gloves, hat, sunglasses, gaiters and hiking poles
  • For longer routes backpack with drink and food
  • Recommended are map 1:25000, compass, GPS if available
  • First aid kit and possibly needed medication

Directions & Parking facilities

The village of Rothenthurm lies on the main traffic axis of the A8 from Schwyz to Pfäffikon.
Parking at the municipal car park. Daily fee CHF 5.-
Train or bus to Rothenthurm, snowshoe to Trachslau, bus to Einsiedeln. The Voralpen Express, which connects Romanshorn-Lucerne, also regularly stops in Rothenthurm.
