The Einsiedeln region is rich in good cycling routes, but the popular circuit around Lake Sihl is also very suitable for skating thanks to good roads and modest elevation differences.

The monastery village serves as the starting point, especially if you arrive by public transport. Once you have passed the monastery square, there is a slight descent down to Lake Sihl. Without major elevation differences, you can easily follow the picturesque lakeside road to the Egg dam and further around the northern end of the lake to Willerzell. If you don’t take the shortcut over the viaduct here, you continue skating south and only cross the lake at the Steinbach viaduct. After Gross begins the only notable climb of the entire circuit, which leads back to the monastery square.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Those using Nordic cross-skates can circumvent the southern end of the lake via Euthal. Although the route from Schwyzergatter runs on gravel, it is well passable for cross-skates with the necessary caution.
