How did the federal constitution come about? How did the rural population live in the 1840s? How did the last war on Swiss soil come about and what significance did it have for the development of modern Switzerland?
The Sonderbundsweg is the first path of the project "Ways to Switzerland" and deals with topics around the Sonderbund War of 1847. It leads from Sins (AG) via Rotkreuz (ZG) to Gisikon (LU) and is 13 km long. The path connects three cantons and lets you experience the time of the Sonderbund War in 13 stages in the landscape.
The Sonderbund War was a military conflict lasting about four weeks in November 1847. But the short war was preceded by decades of tug-of-war between liberal and conservative cantons of the Confederation. This fascinating episode of Swiss history is embedded in the landscape. On site, you can immerse yourself in the historical events with all your senses: you see the battlefield and the developments of mobility, hear the journalist from the radio "Ways to Switzerland" and feel the body moving through history. The goal is to inquire about present-day Switzerland through its past and to process or exchange knowledge between the stages. All this takes place outdoors in nature, which presents itself very differently depending on the season.
It is recommended to use smartphones and headphones. This way, hikers gain access to maps, additional information, and audio tracks.
