The Diavolo via ferrata has a difficulty level of K2-3 and is therefore ideal for beginners. The approach in the Schöllenen Gorge can be reached on foot from Andermatt train station in around 20 minutes. Climbers can expect 700 meters of wire rope, 265 iron pins and hooks, artificial footholds and two ladders. The start is steep and quite airy over a prominent rib in stepped terrain. This is followed by alternating flat rocks and grassy ledges. The views down into the Schöllenen Gorge with the Devil's Bridge are thrilling.
A longer unsecured left-hand crossing (route book) leads to the route's finale: a gully, an exposed rock corner and finally a vertical ladder, then you stand on the edge of the Tüfelstalboden (approx. 1860 m above sea level). Just a little higher is a lovely rest area under the Uri flag with a view of the granite peaks of the Salbitschijen.
You can return to Andermatt on the Chilchenberg or Nätschen hiking trails or on the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway.
