The circular route around the Rotsee is popular not only with walkers but also with joggers. The proximity to the city, the beautiful nature reserve, the practical length of the route as well as playgrounds and the Rotseebadi are some reasons to linger here. The path is technically easy to manage and has only a few elevation changes.

The popular walking path around the Rotsee is not technically demanding. There are hardly any elevation meters to overcome. A large part of the path is paved, otherwise there are gravel sections. The only part consisting of a path with roots is located between the Rotsee ferry station (south side) towards the Rotseebadi. However, it is possible to take the paved Kaspar-Kopp-Strasse to the Rotseebadi. Vehicles and bicycles are not allowed on the walking path around the Rotsee.

Along the route there are benches and barbecue areas here and there. On the south side at the Lucerne Rotsee rowing center, there is a great playground as well as a meadow that invites you to have a picnic. In summer, you can enjoy the cool water at the Rotseebadi or refresh yourself with drinks and snacks. Pedestrians are also warmly welcome to visit the Rotseebadi restaurant. Culinary delights are available all year round at the Seehüsli restaurant at the west end of the Rotsee.

Directions

Start at the Weggismatt bus stop, Lucerne. Walk along the street down to the Rotsee.

On the south side, you will find a gravel path that runs directly along the shore. Soon you will reach the Lucerne Rotsee rowing center, where a playground, a lawn for lounging, and benches invite you to stay a while. After another 10 minutes of walking, you arrive at the Rotsee ferry station. In summer, you can take this ferry across the lake and thus shorten your hike accordingly.

After the station, you have the option to take the path on the left down to the shore, which leads you over roots and stones through the Schache forest to the Rotseebadi. Or you can follow the paved road via Kaspar-Kopp-Strasse. Shortly after the St. Klemens Gymnasium, turn left again onto Rotseeweg. After the wooded area, you will have reached the east end of the Rotsee.

On the north side, the walking path runs continuously along a paved road. The small ascent right after crossing the railway track offers you a beautiful view of Pilatus while you walk past meadows with grazing cows. The second half of the return route then runs flat along the shore to the Seehüsli restaurant.
