Wyher moated castle
A building was first mentioned in a document in 1304, but the manor house was not built until the beginning of the 16th century. Two wealthy families - the Feer von Luzern (1480-1588) and the Pfyffer von Altishofen (1588-1837) - shaped the history of Wyher. The other buildings were constructed under their leadership.
After the castle was sold, the empty buildings fell into disrepair, walls were demolished and furnishings were sold. Refugees were housed during the Second World War.
Rescue from decay
The castle had barely been listed when a lightning strike caused a fire in July 1963 and largely destroyed the manor house. Friends of the castle campaigned for its preservation. A board of trustees, appointed by the Lucerne government, made it possible to renovate the castle. Thanks to the support of a patrons' association and funds from the federal government, canton and municipality, the castle was restored. A Merian engraving from the 17th century served as a model.
The magnificent, stylishly renovated castle was inaugurated in 1996. Today, powerful carp swim in the renovated moat. The elegant garden and the lovely surroundings invite you to linger.
Sensible and stylish use
The various rooms of the moated castle can be rented. Today, company events, family celebrations, seminars, evening programs and exhibitions take place in the various prestigious rooms. The castle and the nearby chapel dating back to 1592 are often used for wedding ceremonies.
