- Start: Dammahütte SAC
- Destination: Chelenalphütte SAC
Hikers descend from the Dammahütte via the staircase-like path and follow the hairpin bends of the hut path downstream. Without crossing the young Dammareuss, the route gently descends following the circular path around the Göscheneralp lake to the Chelenalpreuss junction. At Vorder Röti, you cross the Chelenreuss and branch off towards Chelenalp. Framed by a fantastic backdrop, the hut path leads over alpine meadows and rocky sections into the secluded Chelenalptal. The path is somewhat long, but the impressive valley end with the Chelen glacier, the view of the winter mountains and the numerous streams shorten the way. After alpine buildings and ruins of Hinter Röti, the path overcomes some rock steps secured with fixed ropes and meets a well-visible cairn. Then, the ascent climbs many hairpin bends over the last steep section and you reach the Chelenalphütte over reddish weathered rock knobs.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
If you want to stay overnight in one of the huts (Dammahütte or Chelenalphütte), we recommend making a reservation.
Safety guidelines
Hikers should keep an eye on the weather forecast in advance, as parts of the hike are above 2000 m.a.s.l. and thus, in extreme cases, light snowfall can occur.
