  • Destination: Bergseehütte
The view of the glaciated Damma group is fantastic, steep plate formations rise sharply into the sky, and the Chelenalphorn is nearby. Lonely silence in an impressive primeval landscape accompanies us on the connecting path to Bergseehütte.

The ascent from the Chelenalphütte SAC (2350m) towards Sustenlimi crosses the partly wild stream and shortly above the Chelenalphütte is secured with some hand ropes in steep hairpin bends to the clearly visible junction (2592 m) towards the mountain lake. The route now heads southeast over solid scree with rocky slabs and over several wild streams towards the rocky landscape of the Hinter Mur to a striking cairn. Varied scree and coarse blocky rock require surefootedness. Then the path leads us over a ridge of the Hoch Horenfellistock - the highest point of this stage, 2611 m - to the Vorder Mur and descends through only slightly different path sections to the blue-green mountain lake (2341m). A short ascent brings us up to the Bergseehütte SAC (2370m). The cozy atmosphere and the climbing routes in the nearby south ridges hold our attention in the incredible steep granite landscape.

Tip:

The mountain lake is 2.1 ha in size and 10 m deep. It has a population of brook trout and is well suited as a practice water for fly fishermen. Swimming in this legendary, south-facing environment is also very rewarding.

Safety guidelines

Mountain hiking is demanding.

For mountain and alpine hiking trails, knowledge of dangers in the mountains (rockfall, risk of slipping/falling, sudden weather changes) is necessary. Sturdy hiking shoes with grippy soles, weather-appropriate equipment, topographic national maps (not only smartphone), compass, and altimeter are part of the basic equipment. Additionally, a small first aid kit, emergency blanket, and mobile phone for emergencies are part of the basic equipment.

It is recommended to make a serious route planning and careful preparation for every hike. The weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Fog can also make orientation difficult in summer. The greatest danger in summer besides the heat is thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail quickly turn a small stream into large rivers, increasing the risk of mudslides and rockfall. Therefore, it is important to interpret the weather report when planning routes. Warm weather thunderstorms often come only in the afternoon, but frontal thunderstorms can occur at any time of the day. In general, it is worthwhile to start early in summer.

Mountain guides or qualified hiking leaders (up to T4) are recommended for alpine trails (white-blue-white marked routes), hiking leaders for hikes and mountain hikes. They take over the organization and planning of tours so guests can simply enjoy the hike.

The Urner Wanderplaner and the Uri Outdoor App help with planning. Using Geo Admin, you can find many useful pieces of information such as where pastures with herd guardian dogs, mother cow pastures and also wildlife protection zones are located.

Hikers hike at their own risk. The Urner Wanderwege association is not liable for accidents occurring during the Urner Alpenkranz hike.

Attention: Varied scree and coarse blocky rock require surefootedness.
