This tour combines everything that makes a perfect bike ride: varied trails, impressive views, historical charm, and culinary delights. Ideal for half a day on two wheels in the heart of Obwalden.

The varied mountain bike tour starts at the station in Sachseln. From here, the route leads steadily uphill via Steinenstrasse towards Gloters. The ascent is quickly rewarded: with every meter of elevation, the view opens more and more onto the deep blue Sarnersee and the impressive panorama of the surrounding mountains.

A special highlight of the tour is the geographical center of Obwalden. The idyllic viewpoint surprises not only with a fantastic panoramic view but also with a welcoming, well-equipped barbecue area that invites you to linger – perfect for a short break in the middle of nature.

Afterwards, the route continues on shady forest paths through the Schwandenwald. Here, you encounter moss-covered stones, small babbling brooks, and an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. Soon, you reach the historic Flüeli-Ranft. At the stylish Art Nouveau Hotel Paxmontana, you can enjoy a well-deserved coffee break on the terrace while admiring the magnificent view of the surrounding mountain panorama – a delight for all the senses.

For the return journey to Sachseln, there are different options. Those who want to take it easy can choose the direct route via the main road back to Sachseln. Those who still have energy can extend the round as they please – depending on riding skills, fitness, and time.

Reto's Insider Tip

"Where you look is where you go."

A forward-looking glance into the desired travel line – especially in curves or technical sections – ensures more flow and safety. The body (and the bike) automatically follow the gaze.
