Gersau - Oberried - Ausserurmi - Wissiflue - Märis-Bänkli - Oberrengg - Gersau

On this route we come to a bench. "For THIS bench – if benches had stars from one to five, this would have seven." (Thomas Widmer, Tagesanzeiger)

This is a hike with spectacular views!
First, we walk on the mountain road up to Oberried, where a farm road branches off to the left over gaps. Already here, you can let your eyes wander over Gersau, the lake, and mountains - a feast for the eyes.
Steadily ascending through the forest, we come to Niederurmi and then occasionally cross the mountain road. In Ausserurmi, our efforts are rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view. It seems as if the world lies at our feet.
After a short descent, we reach Wissiflue. There we keep left and continue hiking to Märis-Bänkli. Many consider this bench to be the most beautiful in Switzerland. Thomas Widmer writes in the Tagesanzeiger about this bench: "In its unobstructed location, it once again enhances the view of the water with the toy sailboats and the charismatic mountains around. Grasshoppers jump over our shoes, the air is psychedelic, the eyes overflow. Why legalize cannabis when there is such an intoxicating bench?"

When we finally manage to tear ourselves away, we follow the path further down to Oberrengg and back to Gersau.

Note:
So that future generations or tomorrow’s walkers can also enjoy this beautiful path, please take your rubbish back with you. Thank you.

Tour information

  • Loop Road

Equipment

Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing recommended.

Directions & Parking facilities

Via motorway A4: Exit Küssnacht or Exit Brunnen.

However, we recommend public transport instead of car: sit back, enjoy and at the same time do something good for the environment.

In the village there are various paid parking options: e.g. at the quay area by the lake or in the middle of the village near the Old Town Hall.

In Gersau, the buses run towards Brunnen or Küssnacht at least every half hour. If you don’t want to walk the last stretch, you can take the Wissiflue cable car to Vitznau and from there take the bus back to Gersau.
