Langis, the natural sun terrace above Lake Sarnen, is a paradise for cross-country skiers. It is located directly on the pass summit of the Glaubenberg Pass (1,543 m above sea level) on the Obwalden side. Langis features the longest continuous network of trails in Central Switzerland. Even Boris Becker has already completed several laps here.
From the parking lot, you can reach the trailhead about 300 meters away on cross-country skis. The Fröschenseeli route leads through rather flat and lightly forested terrain on its first half, passing by the Andresen hut to Schwendi-Kaltbad, a former spa resort. Via the Schlierentalhut, the turnaround point at Fröschenseeli is reached, which is somewhat hidden in the raised bog. The birches, mountain pines, and the frozen moor lake evoke holidays in the far north. Sparkling snow lies on heather and moss cushions. The Titlis, Hochstollen, and Wetterhörner mountains dominate the mountain range.
The return route leads on the opposite side of the valley through forested terrain again to Schwendi-Kaltbad. Directly on the trail is the Chapel of Our Lady. It commemorates the "cold bath in Schwendi." After an iron-rich spring was tapped there in 1642, a renowned hotel with moor and sulfur baths was established. However, it burned down in 1970. An outbuilding of the former spa complex was converted into a small restaurant styled like a Canadian log cabin. After refreshment there, it is about two kilometers back to the starting point.
