Experience the technical railway achievements of the Gotthard mountain line on foot in the Urner Reuss valley. Train by train and step by step worth seeing.

An impressive mountain landscape awaits hikers in the Reuss valley between Göschenen and Altdorf. On the 32 kilometer long Gotthard hiking trail, there are many historically valuable objects to admire. Information boards are distributed along the entire route. In the first kilometers, you learn interesting and curious facts about the history of the Gotthard mountain line. The viewpoint at the small church in Wassen is ideal for watching the trains as they climb the narrow valley thanks to the spiral tunnels. Between Gurtnellen and Amsteg, hikers cross the Felliboden suspension bridge. And on the way from Amsteg to the railway village of Erstfeld, you admire the highest bridge of the SBB and unknowingly walk over the former Federal Council bunker.

In Erstfeld starts the new 8 kilometer long section that leads hikers to the station in Altdorf and is dedicated entirely to new modes of transport.
