Hagelstock (2,181 m a.s.l.) - Rotenbalm

Tip
Ski and Snowboard

The descent route from Hagelstock to Chäppeliberg is, under good conditions, one of the best that the Lidern area has to offer. A steep summit slope is followed by flatter, top-class enjoyable sections depending on the line taken. The steep slopes after Alp Rotenbalm require intact orientation skills and solid ski technique.

The story of the ascent is quickly told: the adventurous, open-air cable car leads to Gitschenen, from where the summit is easily reachable via Spilauen in 1.5 hours.

    Additional information

The cable car from Chäppeliberg to Gitschenen is often overcrowded on weekends, which can lead to long waiting times. It is better to go during the week or to manage the ascent to Lidernen on foot if necessary.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

As an alternative to Rotenbalm, easier descent options are available both on the Uri side and towards Lidernen. Visitors at the Lidernen hut are always welcomed with something freshly baked and a fine tea or coffee.
