The snowshoe trail with medium difficulty leads into the former Winterhorn ski area through snowy slopes and mountain landscapes.

The snowshoe trail starts at the Hospental roundabout and initially follows the historic old Gotthard Pass road. Then follows the crossing of the new pass road, which leads directly into the former ski area. The ascent to Mittleregg comes next with medium steepness, offering an impressive view. The valley opens towards the Gotthard Pass, where a special building is visible; a ventilation shaft of the Gotthard road tunnel. Much more impressive, however, is the great tranquility prevailing there: if you have ever driven the heavily frequented Gotthard Pass road in summer, it is hardly imaginable how idyllic and pure the nature there is in winter. The descent passes an old quarry and follows varied terrain. The last part is the same as the ascent and leads back to the old pass road.
