  • Destination: Illgau village

With the Illgau - St. Karl cable car, which is located in the middle of the village, you reach the starting point, the Oberberg St. Karl mountain station.

After a short walk, you reach the cozy mountain restaurant Oberberg. From here, continue 100m along the road to the Alpine building. The path then briefly ascends steeply to the picturesque tree line. Passing the Unterer Chaltenbrunnen Alp, follow the hiking trail towards Strit - Hinter Oberberg. You cross the Rieter with its poor meadows, flowers, and almost a dozen "Euschen." These were used until the last quarter of the 20th millennium for the intermediate storage of mountain hay, which was only brought down in winter by sleds, the "Männli," to the winter quarters of the cattle. The path gently ascends through "bush and forest" to Zopf, point 1330. Here, a bench at the signpost invites you to a short rest. The Kaiserstock with its vassals, the Fronalpstock and its grassy mountains, and further west the lake, the Pilatus, and the Rigi mountains. This magnificent arena must be noted. Continue downhill to Hinterer Oberberg with its charming terrain terraces and scattered farms. To the right of Zingelberg is the Heart of Jesus Chapel. At Bergli, follow the ancient church path left through Linthiwald. Past the old "Gruebeli," which serves as shelter for tired hikers, you approach the starting point, the village of Illgau.
