The spectacular view from Hochstollen into the beautiful mountain world of the Central Swiss and Bernese Alps and over deep blue mountain lakes is breathtaking.

From the mountain station, the path leads down to Melchsee and with slight ups and downs to Blausee, located amidst rich alpine flora. From there, it goes somewhat steeper up to Abgschütz, the striking crossing both to Älggi in the Kleine Melchtal and to the Bernese Haslital. Here is an octagonal shelter, which is not staffed. It was built for the 100-year anniversary of SAC Engelberg modeled after the Grassen bivouac and was set up in 2013 by the Steinmanndli Club Sachseln as weather protection for hikers in the remote area.

From Abgschütz, the mountain path climbs steeply over the ridge to Hochstollen, where a fantastic panoramic view from Titlis to the Wetterhorn and deep into the valleys awaits. Then it goes initially somewhat exposed over crags and then down the railing ridge Hochsträss, where one descends eastwards via Hääggen to the Mägisalp station. From there the gondola lift runs to Meiringen and the Zentralbahn back to the starting point.

The summit ascent and return along the same route to Melchsee-Frutt is worth it alone, which also takes about four hours of hiking time.
