The high valley Melchsee-Frutt offers varied ski areas: the slopes of Balmeregghorn and Erzegg with wide and sunny pistes. Opposite are the steeper descents around Bonistock. The ride starts by gondola or lift usually in the Distelboden area, reachable in a few minutes from the mountain station.
Between the Erzegg chairlift and the Distelboden restaurant is also the start of the Melchsee trail. The short, flat route along the frozen reservoir offers a wonderful view of the car-free Frutt-Dörfli and the striking mountain range including Rothorn, Glogghuis, Hochstollen, and Brünighaupt. The trail is ideal for warming up and getting a first orientation in the area.
If you look closely, you might notice some holes in the lake. No worries: they indicate a rare sport practiced here – ice fishing. If you're lucky, you might even watch someone fishing.
