The route takes us from the Andermatt train station, past the world-famous Hotel The Chedi Andermatt towards the Gemsstockbahn valley station. From "Neu-Andermatt" we hike through Alt-Andermatt to the Männli viewpoint, where there is a large wooden cross. We continue climbing across to the crystal-clear Lutersee, the highest point of the hike. It is worth taking a break at the fire pit there. A short high path leads to the middle station of the Gemsstockbahn on the Gurschen. Unfortunately, the lift does not operate during the summer season 2015. The hike through the protected forest, which shelters Andermatt from avalanches in winter, is always worthwhile. On the informative theme path, we learn how avalanche protection works.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
- Take enough time for the descent through the forest to Andermatt. The information panels about avalanche protection are informative and interesting. You will also see various protective structures of different ages in the forest.
Safety guidelines
- In midsummer, a herd of yaks is grazed on the Gurschenalp. Stay on the hiking trail in the area of the animals and keep your distance from the herd.
