Mythenrundreise

This route guarantees great views as well as tourist and gastronomic highlights. With views over numerous lakes and countless mountain ranges of Central Switzerland.

The Mythenrundreise starts in Rickenbach, at the valley station of the Rotenfluebahn or in Sattel-Hochstuckli (Mostelberg), at the Stuckli Rondo rotating gondola. Once at the top, the roughly three-hour circular hike begins, which takes you behind the two Mythen mountains. The route is about ten kilometers long and also well suited for children. Due to the many attractions found along the hiking trail, the circular hike can also be extended into a full day trip. Afterwards, another gondola takes you back down to the valley. From the respective valley station, you can take the bus back to your starting point. Bus fares are included in the combined ticket.

Directions & Parking facilities

From Zurich/Zug on motorway A3 towards Lucerne/Gotthard & A4/E41 towards Schwyz and take exit 39 Schwyz. Follow the signs towards Schwyz, then Rickenbach; valley station is on the left side. (approx. 30-45 min)
From Lucerne on motorway A2/E35 towards Zurich/Zug, continue on A4/E41 towards Schwyz and take exit 39 Schwyz. Follow the signs towards Schwyz, then Rickenbach; valley station is on the left side. (approx. 35 min.)

Parking available at the valley station Rotenflue, also large parking lot at the valley station Sattel-Hochstuckli.

Südostbahn (SOB) from Rapperswil, Pfäffikon, Wädenswil, Einsiedeln, Lucerne, Arth-Goldau. Train station «Sattel-Aegeri» (10 minutes on foot to the valley station of the gondola).
Voralpen-Express: fast train connection Romanshorn-St.Gallen-Lucerne (stops in Biberbrugg and Arth-Goldau). Connecting buses from Biberbrugg (direction Rothenthurm-Sattel SHAG-Schwyz).
Direct bus connection from Schwyz to Sattel with Auto AG Schwyz - stop Sattel SHAG, gondola.
Direct bus connection from Biberbrugg to Sattel with Auto AG Schwyz - stop Sattel SHAG, gondola
Direct bus connection from Zug to Sattel. Every Saturday and Sunday (from 10 Dec. 2017) according to schedule.
On weekdays from Zug to Sattel with the ZVB (bus line 1) to Oberägeri, change to bus line 9, ride to end station - stop Sattel SHAG, gondola.

Additional information

The Rotenflue Mythenregion AG and Sattel-Hochstuckli AG recommend starting the hike in Rickenbach. Of course, the Mythenrundreise can also be done in the opposite direction. Please note the descending altitude difference.

Public transport combined ticket «Mythenrundreise» = Rotenfluebahn + Sattel-Hochstuckli gondola + bus back to the starting point.

Available at the valley stations of both mountain railways. Can be done from either side.
