Did you know that chestnuts are cultivated on the south side of the Rigi? This route starts in the chestnut village of Greppen and ends at Chesteneweid, where chestnuts may also be harvested.   

The path begins in Greppen, where the big Chestenechilbi takes place every autumn. Already on the way to Weggis, the first chestnut trees can be seen along the roadside. We then join the Waldstätterweg and follow it along the upper edge of the village of Weggis into Bannholz. This leads us to the upper edge of Chesteneweid, a grove with over 100 chestnut trees. The good thing about it: the harvest is open to everyone. It’s also worthwhile to look around here. Because 335 plant species have been recorded in this area, of which 22 belong to the orchid family. Accordingly, the diversity of butterflies is also very large…

From Chesteneweid, staying on the Waldstätterweg, rather steep but romantic via Orenfad and Allmig Oberwilen to Vitznau (Park Hotel). Additional 90 min., 150m ascent, 330 m descent, T2.
