The hike is ideal as a half-day trip from Lucerne. Even the approach by boat and the Bürgenstock Railway is spectacular. The rock path is not very demanding: the gravel path is well prepared and with the use of the Hammetschwand lift, only a few elevation meters need to be covered on foot. The pure hiking time is about 1.5 hours. Allow some extra time. You will pass many viewpoints inviting you to pause and enjoy the surroundings and the view.

Directions
Take the motorboat Bürgenstock from Lucerne directly to the Kehrsiten–Bürgenstock boat station. Then take a seat in the nostalgic Bürgenstock funicular. Once at the top, you look out over the sea of fog or Lake Lucerne. Can you recognize all the outstanding mountain peaks? You will see the Rigi, the Pilatus, the Stanserhorn, the Mythen, and the Titlis.
In the upscale Bürgenstock Resort, you will find a suitable and cozy place for your coffee and cake in one of the many restaurants. This is followed by a scenic hike along the educational rock path. Panels inform you via a QR code about the geology and history of the rock path, Bürgenberg, and the surroundings. The path is lined with much greenery, which turns into bright colors in autumn. Soon you will reach the Hammetschwand lift. Europe's highest outdoor lift is a masterpiece from the year 1905. The ride on the lift and the platform at the top offer yet another spectacular view.
The path continues on the ridge and east side of the Bürgenberg before you reach the rock path again. Between the valley station of the Hammetschwand lift and the destination, respective starts of the rock path, you partially hike back on the same path.
The return journey to Lucerne is either by post bus and Zentralbahn or again via funicular and shuttle or scheduled boat.
