Hike

Rigi Staffel - Rigi Klösterli - Malchus Chapel - Rigi Dächli - Goldau

On the second stage of the Schwyz high route, you hike on the majestic north side of the Rigi. The valley floor of Goldau is your hiking destination.

You start downhill at Rigi Staffel, along the lush dry meadows on the south slope and can admire the famous floral diversity of the Rigi. For example, the globeflower, the male orchid, gentian, kidney vetch, marsh helleborine, and much more.

So that the herders on the Rigi could attend the weekly church service, in 1688 the church bailiff of Arth and his wife donated the chapel «Maria zum Schnee». The chapel is now considered one of the most beautiful mountain chapels. After Rigi Klösterli, you follow the «old Rigi trail» to Rigi Dächli. Over the Harmettlenberg, you reach Arth-Goldau station, one of the most important railway hubs in Switzerland. The high platform of RIGI RAILWAYS AG is an elaborately renovated rider station and a historic building with over 100 years of history.
