Seengen, Hallwyl Castle - Sarmenstorf - Bettwil - Oberschongau - Horben, day hike from Hallwyl Castle to Lindenberg to Horben

The starting point is Hallwyl Castle. The water castle between Boniswil and Seengen can be reached by bus or on a marked route in 30 minutes on foot from the Seetalbahn station in Boniswil. The hike begins on the east side of the castle, shortly following the Aabach through the moor towards the Seengen ship station on Lake Hallwil.

On the way there is a reconstructed pile dwelling. The lake also invites you to swim. After the Reberg from Brestenberg, a staircase leads to the cantonal road. After a short section of road, the path is marked on the left upwards into the slope towards Sarmenstorf. Here the path leads eastwards through the village. After the "Wilden Mann" inn, it goes up to the right. A hollow way at the Erusbach continues to the Heidenhübelstein marked in the Aargau hiking map, an erratic boulder of impressive size. The next map reference is the Roman villa, foundations of a Roman estate from the 1st century AD. To the south lies the next destination: Bettwil, the highest municipality in Aargau. Worth seeing are the late Baroque parish church, the parsonage built in 1764, and various old crosses and wayside shrines. Continuing in the same direction is Oberschongau, with an old church built on Roman foundations. The path then goes to Chalchtaren. Always heading south, it passes the lonely farms in Chilholz to the forest clearing Schlatt. After the Grod farms, there is another forest section. A short descent at the edge of the forest leads to the road that leads to the Horben inn.

The well-kept alpine inn offers rest and refreshment, with a location that allows a unique view of the Central Alps.
