Hollywood Feeling and Force of Nature

After the Rigi-Klösterli, you soon pass the Restaurant Dächli, where the legendary Dächli hostess welcomed the very first Rigi visitors in her inn about 400 years ago. There is a touch of Hollywood in the air here. At this place grew up Leni Marty alias Syra Marty, who developed from the conservative rural homeland into a sought-after advertising icon and dancer on both sides of the Atlantic. Hollywood men adored her, and Syra Marty is said to have been in a catfight with Marilyn Monroe.

On the way up to the Wildspitz along the ridge, you can see the whole rockslide area on the right. On September 2, 1806, around 3,000,000 m3 of rock detached here and buried the entire village of Goldau. 457 people were buried. According to the chronicle by Dr. Zay, all signs were present that the mountain would one day come down. At the rupture site on the Gnipen, trenches formed, the fir trees stood crooked, and the crunching and rubbing of the rocks could also be heard. But no one believed in a catastrophe. No evacuation took place - which is why so many residents lost their lives.

Directions

From Rigi Klösterli, you hike downhill above the playful Rigiaa on a well-developed hiking trail. You walk through wild romantic wooded areas with views of impressive Nagelfluh rock formations towards the Restaurant Dächli.

From Rigi Dächli you continue your hike comfortably to Blätzen and follow the path to the Arth-Goldau train station.

From Goldau SBB, you use the underpass and follow the signs. Through the North exit you reach Centralstrasse, which you follow until it joins Parkstrasse. On the other side lies Rossbergstrasse (signposted). Through a new settlement, you arrive at Bergstrasse, where the mountain path direction pillars guide you. After the area of the cable car construction company Garaventa, the ascent begins.

You hike along the edge of the Tennmatt homestead to the creek and change sides at the little bridge. Soon you reach the Härzigwald. This serves as protection against rockfall and debris for the SBB line Goldau–Zug running at the foot. It provides pleasant shade in great heat. On the hiking trail laid out with several switchbacks, the Spitzibüel homestead is reached. Below the buildings you get to Flurstrasse, which connects Goldau with the farms in Spitzibüel. There you keep left, and the street leads you quickly to the next signpost. Now the paved road ends. Hard beside the little stream, the natural path climbs and you enter the alp. Keeping left, you reach the ridge, which you follow to Ochsenboden. Then it's over the Gnipen along the ridge to Wildspitz.
