The start is near the village; it leads through the idyllic winter landscape, through forest sections and past alpine huts.
The curves, descents, and a challenging climb give the Chruteren trail its attribute "difficult." The trail, groomed for classic and skating styles, begins at 1300 meters and is therefore usually above the fog line. The entry point is at the mountain station of the Maggiweid ski lift. It leads out into the silent landscape, where the scattered fir trees silently watch and the walkers greet you kindly. On the way to Bawangli, the view of the Muotathal mountain world accompanies you; a little further at Seilstock, you can look down into the village of Muotathal, and on the return journey, the Grosse Mythen stands as a fixed point on the horizon. Back in the village of Stoos, cozy little inns invite you to linger before returning to the Schwyz basin by funicular railway. The trail can be used free of charge.
