From the Schwyz basin to the Glarus region and back to the Schwyz cantonal capital via the upper Lake Zurich. A very beautiful but also demanding circular route with three mountain pass crossings.

A wonderfully beautiful circular route that fills the day and lets you know what you have done by the evening. The largest spruce primeval forest in Europe (Bödmeren), one of the largest cave systems in the world (Hölloch), the wild karst area on the Pragel Pass as well as the lakes are almost unrealistically beautiful on this tour and compensate for every effort.

Directions

The historic town of Schwyz is the starting point. There is first an approximately 20 km flat warm-up phase into the Muotatal. On the busy main road into the Muotatal – passing the steepest funicular railway in the world at Stoos – you ride past the famous village of weather prophets.

At the entrance to the Hölloch (the third largest cave system in Europe), you ride a narrow mountain pass road up to the Pragel Pass. This is the steepest part of the route with an 18% gradient. From the natural paradise Pragel, where you can taste a fine alpine cheese at the dairy or mountain inn, the ride continues past the idyllic Klöntal Lake down to Glarus.

From Glarus you cross the flat Linth plain to Siebnen. Here you follow the SwitzerlandMobil signage No. 76 to the Sattelegg. From there your ride goes down to Willerzell at Lake Sihl. Take a cool swim in the lake. Following the lake on the left, the route leads to Unteriberg (via Studen). In the village of Unteriberg, the ascent via Oberiberg to the Ibergeregg begins. Slowly and beautifully scenic, it steadily rises towards the Ibergeregg Pass. On the fast descent to Schwyz, you have a wonderful view of the Schwyz basin and Brunnen with Lake Lucerne and Lake Lauerz.
