We hike along Lake Lucerne towards the east up to the Risleten Gorge. During the subsequent climb, the view of the lake and mountains becomes increasingly open and wide, and soon the cozy mountain village of Emmetten with the Jakob Church as well as accommodation and dining options is reached.
We continue through the natural Brennwald forest reserve over the Stutzberge to Volligen. Shortly afterwards we reach Treib with its nearly 800-year-old sheltered harbor with an inn, which in the hall on the upper floor hosted over 70 meetings of the old communities and is thus probably one of the oldest inns in Switzerland. Ships have been docking in Treib since 1854. Where once sedan chair carriers brought guests to the spa resort Seelisberg, today a comfortable funicular railway operates.
Around the Seelisberg peninsula, the route first goes a little uphill again and shortly after the youth hostel, which is housed in an old former stable, it goes comfortably downhill again through the first forest reserve in the canton of Uri to the Rütli, the founding place of Switzerland. The final ascent to Seelisberg remains with the beautiful viewing terraces, restaurant, hotels, mountain cheese dairy and idyllic mountain bathing lake.
