On this hike, you experience the diversity of the Sägel-Schutt nature reserve. Bogs, silting-up zones, ponds, and landslide traces are flanked by Rigi and Rossberg.

The traces of the Goldau landslide from 1806 are omnipresent in the lake landscape shaped by extensive reed meadows: the moist valley floor is strewn with huge boulders, some of which are covered with moss. In the cantonal nature reserve and forest reserve, a rich flora and fauna grow and thrive. Together, the various areas of the moorland give a wild, natural charm. This beauty quickly pushes the original disaster into the background.

The Goldseeli and the water lily pond invite you to linger romantically. Situated in the forest, they recall fairy-tale enchanted places. Some of the ponds in the area have wooden boardwalks to get a close look at the water lilies and natural shores. Families prefer the adventure playground for breaks. There are various barbecue areas available for grilling your own sausages.

Directions

From Arth-Goldau station, the path is signposted. Shortly after the last residential houses, you enter the forest. After the Robinson playground, you reach the picturesque Goldseeli, while wooden sculptures line the path. As soon as you leave the forest again, the plain towards Lake Lauerz lies ahead, with the Mythen mountains rising in the background. Frogs croak at the water lily pond, then the path leads through a reed landscape up to Lauerz church. Hard to believe that in 1806, during the landslide, debris reached Lake Lauerz and caused a 20-meter-high flood wave. The stone witnesses are still there, but the landscape now radiates peace. The bus departs from Lauerz back to the starting point.
