You take the boat about 10 minutes from Brunnen to Rütli station. At the Rütli inn, the Weg der Schweiz starts and mostly leads you through the forest in numerous curves up to Seelisberg, which is about 350 meters higher. If you already need a refreshment, you can choose from various restaurants in the village.
Past the parish church and the pilgrimage chapel Maria Sonnenberg you reach the upper part of the village of Seelisberg. Here you have a wonderful view of Lake Uri and the Reuss delta. Directly at your feet you can discover the Rütli meadow.
Just before the freshly scented pine forest, a playground invites you to linger. Soon after you reach Beroldingen Castle with a magnificent view over Lake Uri. From now on, it goes first gently downhill to Wyler “Wyssig” and then steeply down to the Mediterranean Bauen over 960 stone steps on an old mule track.

Additional information
Access for people with disabilities
The Swiss Alpine Club (SGG) together with the Federal Office for Buildings and Logistics is working to make Rütli wheelchair accessible. Various structural measures are being examined together with the cantonal monument preservation. Currently, wheelchair users still rely on their own companions to push the wheelchair from the boat pier to the Rütli house and the Rütli meadow. The Swisstrac wheelchair device is also helpful.
The ascent from the Rütli boat station to the Rütli meadow is pram accessible. A section from Seelisberg railway station towards Bauen can also be accessed with a pram (Seelisberg – Marienhöhe – Wyssig).
Weg der Schweiz
The Weg der Schweiz is based on a far-sighted vision: it should be an example of gentle interaction with nature and remain a modest place of encounter. The mountains, the lake, and the magnificent views have always been its defining features.
