Wild haymaker's path

Combining landscape conservation and agricultural use. The wild haymaking is associated with ancient traditions which are still practiced in the area below the Rophaien. But it is not only for this reason that a detour to the wild hay area is worthwhile. The views from the flank of the Rophaien into the Urner valley floor and Lake Uri are sensational.

After a short mountain ride, you reach the Eggbergen. Enjoy the early morning to linger in one of the mountain restaurants. There is nothing better than breakfast in the mountains. After a short ascent through a varied and cooling forest, you reach the Hüttenboden. Then it mostly goes straight ahead or downhill. The path is well secured and suitable for everyone. However, concentration is paramount. The terrain is steep. If you want to enjoy the magnificent view in between, do like the photographer, stop briefly and "shoot" your picture. After about two and a half hours (depending on how often you stop and enjoy the view), you reach the mountain station at Oberaxen. From the sun terrace of the mountain restaurant Oberaxen you can enjoy a wonderful view into the valley. Then you can either walk via Balzenrüti, Giebel to the valley station of the Oberaxen cable car (about 1 hour) or, if you want to go high, use the Oberaxen - Gruonbach cable car (Variant A). By bus, you will get back to the valley station of the Eggbergen cable car within 10 minutes.
