Originally, the Rosengart Collection was the private art collection of art dealer Siegfried Rosengart (1894–1985) and his daughter Angela. In 1992, Angela Rosengart founded the Rosengart Foundation to make the paintings from her private collection accessible to the public. In 2002, the Rosengart Foundation opened in Lucerne in the former building of the Swiss National Bank. Both the museum and the “Grande Dame of Art”—Angela Rosengart—are household names in the international art scene. In fact, the Lucerne-based art dealer Angela Rosengart was portrayed no fewer than five times by Pablo Picasso, who was part of her circle of friends.
