  • Start: Einsiedeln or Seewen/Schwyz

The classic route for road cycling enthusiasts, offering everything: mountain passes, lakes, fast descents, and good places to stop for refreshments.

The ride up to Ibergeregg demands increased fitness and skill. The sections through the historic town of Schwyz and the monastic village of Einsiedeln, as well as the idyllic ride along Lake Sihl, fully compensate for the effort of the ascent. It is recommended to do the route clockwise, as the climb from Ybrig is noticeably easier. The descent to Schwyz offers especially great views but is also challenging and not without risk. If you do the route counterclockwise, the ideally chosen route is the low-traffic road via Illgau and St. Karl.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Those traveling with a gravel bike can switch to the traffic-free gravel road between Steinau and Unteriberg and return via Katzenstrick after Einsiedeln.

Safety guidelines

The descent from Ibergeregg down to Schwyz tempts riders to go (too) fast, resulting in frequent accidents. Ride carefully and considerately.
