  • Destination: Biel
We explore a unique hiking area at the intersection of the cantons of Uri and Schwyz. In the vast cultural landscape, easy to demanding hikes as well as mountain inns and mountain huts await us.

A well-marked path guides us from the cozy Lidernenhütte SAC (1727 m) over alpine pastures with rare alpine flora into the hollow of Ober Hüttli to the Mälchbödeli (approx. 1900 m). The route then ascends an airy ridge over the grass-covered back up to the summit cross of the distinctive Rossstock (2460 m). After a snack from the backpack and the obligatory entry in the summit register, we descend a bit on the same route again to the marked descent towards the Rossstocklücke. The path crosses to the blue-white signpost at the Rossstocklücke (2286 m). We choose the descent through a steep gully down to the Fruttstägen (2075 m). In spring, this is often still filled with snow.

Further, the route leads us via the "Unter Frutt" and turns at Lang Egg.

We follow the mountain path down to Weissenboden (point 1803) and from here to Biel to the mountain inn Skihaus Edelweiss (1730 m) or a little further down to the mountain inn Biel (1624 m).

Safety guidelines

Mountain hiking is demanding. For mountain and alpine hiking routes, knowledge of dangers in the mountains (rockfall, slip/fall hazard, weather change) is necessary. Sturdy hiking boots with a grippy sole, weather-appropriate equipment, topographic national maps (not just smartphone), compass, and altimeter belong to the basic equipment. Additionally, a pocket first aid kit, emergency blanket, and mobile phone for emergencies are part of the basic equipment.

It is recommended to plan tours seriously and prepare carefully for each hike. The weather in the mountains can change very quickly. Fog can make orientation difficult even in summer. The greatest dangers in summer besides heat are thunderstorms. Thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail can turn a small stream quickly into large rivers, increasing the danger of mudflows and rockfall. Therefore, it is important to interpret the weather report when planning tours. Heat thunderstorms usually come only in the afternoon, but frontal thunderstorms can occur at any time of the day. In general, it is worthwhile to be on the move early in summer.

Mountain guides or qualified hiking leaders (up to T4) are recommended for alpine hiking routes (marked white-blue-white), hiking leaders for hikes and mountain hikes. They take over the organization and planning of the tours so that guests can simply enjoy the hike.

The Uri hiking planner and the Uri Outdoor App help with planning. Via Geo Admin, you can find many useful information such as where pastures with herd guard dogs, suckler cow pastures, and wildlife sanctuaries are located.

Hikers hike at their own risk. The Uri Hiking Trails Association is not liable for accidents that occur during the Uri Alpenkranz hikes.
