Spectacular finds, preserved relics from past times, and much more are offered by the Archaeology themed route on the old Brünig packhorse trail in Lungern.

The themed route starts in Obsee and leads over the old stone staircase of the Hagsflue along the Balmiflue to the well-known Letzi, where remains of medieval border fortifications can still be found today. After a short descent, the path regains its old hollow way structure in the Oberhus area. Along the right side of the valley to the Seewli, then up to the Cholhüttliwald, where the old charcoal burner’s hut was recently rediscovered. Below the Brünig Arena curve, the original packhorse trail continues over the Bärschwendi towards Italy. The themed route ends here in the immediate vicinity of the Brünig Pass.

QR codes and a companion brochure, which is available at the Bahnhof Lungern restaurant and the Obwalden Tourism information desk at the Sarnen train station, make the themed route an adventure for young and old. Further content from the archaeological research at Brünig can be found online at www.erlebnisausstellung.ch.
