- Start: Emmetten Stockhütte
- Destination: Emmetten
Leisurely by gondola – or by bike on the paved alpine road – you go up to the Stockhütte. Now and then, the view wanders over the deep blue Lake Lucerne with the city of Lucerne in the background. A gravel path leads over moor and alpine meadows in a protected raised bog. At Alp Ronen begins the most challenging part of the route: on the way to the rustic Choltal, technical riding skills are tested. The Choltal stream offers some picnic spots to relax after the challenging descent. The road (beware of oncoming traffic) leads back to Emmetten.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author
The route can easily be extended through the Brennwald forest.
Recommended detour: the chapel with the rarely beautiful Dance of Death and the cozy fire pit "Schützen 12." Especially popular is the circular course on the wooden boardwalk "Wood-Trail" near Hotel Seeblick in Emmetten, where various technical elements can be practiced.
Those interested can also read about the history of Emmetten on special panels in the Sagendorf: The name Choltal comes from the word charcoal – charcoal was once produced here.
Safety guidelines
The descent from Alp Ronen is rocky and steep. It is only recommended for experienced bikers.
Wear the proper protective gear, assess your skills correctly, give way to hikers, stay on the trail, and close pasture fences.
Follow the mountain bike code of conduct – this way you will remain welcome on your mountain bike.
