Beautiful circular cross-country trail along the Schonbach towards Marbach and back.

Discover the total of 50 kilometers of trails in classic and skating style on the Marbach-Escholzmatt-Bumbach trail network, and enjoy the incomparable view. The start is at the Marbach campsite. The trail runs along the Schonbach over flat terrain to Marbach; this section is also suitable for beginners. From the village of Marbach, the trail goes over Erlenmoos via Geissenmoos (industrial area) and Niederluegen back to the campsite. This section is more challenging with ascents and small descents. Afterwards, you have several options: from the campsite to Wiggen, to Escholzmatt, or Längmatten.

With all passes and tickets of the cross-country trail, you can travel free on the post bus route Escholzmatt-Kemmeriboden during the winter season! There are 15 post bus stops along the trail.

The UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch lies in the heart of Switzerland, centrally located between Bern and Lucerne. You can reach Marbach via main road 10 towards Wiggen (Escholzmatt) and from there to Marbach. From Thun, you reach Marbach via Schallenberg.

Free parking spaces are available in the village or at the Marbach camping site.

You can reach Marbach by public transport via Escholzmatt (Bern-Lucerne railway line). From Escholzmatt take the post bus to Marbach "village". With all cross-country passes and tickets, you can travel free on the post bus route Escholzmatt–Kemmeriboden during the winter season.

Safety guidelines

  • Use only the marked trail and observe the signposts.
  • Be considerate towards other trail users and the landscape.
  • Carry additional sun protection. UV rays at high altitudes can be very strong, especially in winter, even in cloudy weather.
  • Weather conditions can change very quickly and without warning in the mountains. Appropriate clothing is very important.
