The thematic route "50 years of avalanche protection history" offers the opportunity to experience the history of avalanche barriers up close, from the first stone walls to the latest steel structures.
The starting point is the bus stop in the village of Gurtnellen. At Bitzgensteinen, the hiker follows the mountain trail up to Stäfeli and the Egg hut. The ascent covers about 900 meters in elevation to the Schwarz Berg viewpoint. The mountain path runs below the Schnuerstock and Witenstock. Then the descent to the Alp Wildampferen begins. From here, you use the alpine path to the entrance to the Intschialp valley. The Geissgasse leads through the forest over the Holzrüeri to Schipfenberg, a rest area.
Above Richligen, you leave the paved road and use the old Chilenweg. A last signpost with the special labeling of this thematic route leads back to the village of Gurtnellen.
