After starting in the pilgrimage town of Einsiedeln with its imposing monastery, you soon encounter the Sihlsee, the largest reservoir lake in Switzerland. At Egg (SZ) you cross the Sihl over the Devil's Bridge, which is part of the Way of St. James. Interesting: right next to it, the doctor Paracelsus was born in 1493. A short, steep climb follows, branching off before the Etzel pass height. With Lake Zurich in sight, you descend to Schindellegi, again over the Sihl and uphill along the Höhronen.
Soon the color play of the Schwantenau moor protected area catches your eye. Later you enjoy the view over the Rothenthurm raised bog. Spanning more than 100 hectares, it is the largest raised and heath moor in Switzerland. In the middle: the little river Biber, which draws its free meandering lines.
On the ridge of the Höhronen foothill chain stands the Dreiländerstein, the border point of the cantons Zurich, Schwyz, and Zug. The route through the forest does not go all the way up. Instead, you ride towards the Raten pass height and the St. Jost chapel with a magnificent view of the Ägerital. Through the Rothenthurm raised bog, which you admired from above before, you come to Altmatt. You take on the last obstacle: the Katzenstrick. At the top, as a reward, the view over the monastic village Einsiedeln with Sihlsee and the Ybriger mountains in the background awaits you.
