The Kapellenweg leads past 17 churches and chapels, along the old country road through the gently rolling Rottal, which is named after the little river Rot.

From Hellbühl, the path climbs to the Huobkapelle, from where you can enjoy a beautiful view into the wide Rottal. The route then leads through Ruswil with the mighty baroque church, past the 14 helper saints in St. Ulrich and St. Ottilien, right through the nationally protected village of Buttisholz with the baroque church complex, and over the old Roman road to the Oberroth chapel in Grosswangen. Soon the Wyher water castle comes into view, past the nature study area you reach the destination of the hike – Ettiswil, also called the Florence of the Lucerne hinterland.

The hike is also recommended in the opposite direction, as you then always have the Pilatus and the mountains of Central Switzerland in sight.
