The Lauerzersee is frozen and wears a white winter coat. Another fresh snowfall has fallen overnight. The days are short and the slopes on the north side of the Rigi are shady. These are perfect conditions for a classic – the Rigi Scheidegg from Waage.

Open slopes shape the ascent up to Twäriberg. Here the scenery changes, the track leads to a pronounced, airy ridge, far below lie the houses of Goldau and Lake Zug. On clear days the view reaches the Vosges. Anticipation of a steaming soup in the cosy summit restaurant and a rewarding descent in the swirling powder snow arises. If only there were more of these deep winter days!

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

There are places to stop at Gätterlipass, at Rigi Burggeist, and at Rigi Scheidegg. And of course after the descent at Restaurant Waage.
