Sarneraatal Route

The route conveniently starts at Lungern station. Passing the impressive Dundelbach waterfalls and the Lungern-Turren-Bahn, you ride leisurely along the emerald green Lungerersee, then shortly descend via Giswil (Schacherseppli experience trail) and over the Steinibach to reach Sarnersee. Through Wilen, you arrive at the cantonal capital Sarnen, which has much to tell thanks to its eventful history, vibrant culture, and historic buildings. Ideal for parking your bike, enjoying a meal in one of the cozy inns, and exploring the charming village center with a short digestion walk.

In the second half, you follow the Sarneraa to the idyllic nature reserve around Wichelsee, where you can observe various water birds. From here, you can see the small Dunschtigchäppeli, which offers space for about 20 people. It was built after a major cattle disease in 1779. Heading towards Alpnach, you pass the airfield, which is unmistakable. On hot summer days, you can cool off at the swimming area on Alpnachersee before taking the last short stretch to Alpnachstad station under your wheels.
