- Start: Giswil, train station
The starting point is at Giswil train station and the path initially leads with a gentle ascent through the Giswil valley floor to the first tough ramp in Hinterbrenden. This direct ascent towards Sattelpass requires good fitness and riding technique but offers impressive landscapes as compensation. As an alternative, the normal, not heavily used and well-maintained mountain road to Gruonholz can be taken.
From Gruonholz, the road is no longer so steep as it passes wonderful alpine meadows and alps (Honegg, Zwirchi, Dörsmatt, and Sattel). In Dörsmatt, you can refresh yourself at the beautiful rest area and learn about the old rafting technique. Upon arrival at Sattelpass (1584m), you look out over Entlebuch and to Hilferenpass. Here stands the monument to the many Polish internees who built this road.
After the Sattelpass, the bike must be carried down about 70 meters of altitude, then through beautiful meadows along the hiking trail to reach the road for the ascent to Seewenegg. The route follows the road, which shortly after Bergrestaurant Stäldeli changes into a natural road. Here, you will be challenged by some steep climbs. But surrounded by so much nature, you forget about your legs and enjoy the ascent. Past Alp Schwand, depending on strength and technique, some sections can be pushed. Soon the chapel and the lake of Seewenalp appear. The natural road leads to Seewenegg and further to Glaubenberg Pass (please note that there is a general driving ban on the road section from Seewenegg to Glaubenbergstrasse). Just below the pass height, you reach the pass road and follow it until shortly before Schwendi. Here the path turns right and leads down to Lake Sarnen near Wilen. From there you follow the national Bike Route 9 back to Giswil train station.
Note(s)
During the alpine season, you can stop at the mountain inn at Sattelpass.
