Seebodenalp - Grodboden - Holderen - Düssen - Rigi Staffel - Rigi Kulm

This popular hiking route leads you from Küssnacht am Rigi to the Queen of the Mountains. Take the aerial cableway from Küssnacht to Seebodenalp. From there, hike over rural roads and alpine pastures towards the Holderen hut. Then follows a challenging ascent over the Rütlersplangg to the covered firepit at Gruebi in Düssen. Through the shade-giving mountain forest, continue up to the Rigi Staffel station and further to Rigi Kulm. At the summit, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over the whole Central Switzerland and wide parts of the Midlands. The hike can also be done in the opposite direction.

Notes

The current operating status of the railways and hiking trails can be found here.

To ensure future generations can also enjoy the Queen of the Mountains, please dispose of your waste at the stations or take it home with you. Thank you.

Sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. Possibly hiking poles. Food and drinks for the way.

Directions & Parking facilities

Motorway A4 to the Küssnacht am Rigi exit, then drive in the direction of Weggis - Vitznau.

Arrival and parking

At the valley station of the Küssnacht-Seebodenalp aerial cableway, paid parking spaces are available.

However, we recommend public transport instead of a car: lean back, enjoy, and do something good for the environment at the same time.

Take public transport to the valley station of the Küssnacht-Seebodenalp aerial cableway. The cableway operates continuously during high guest frequency.

The hiking ticket for this hike includes the following train rides:

  • from Küssnacht to Seebodenalp by aerial cableway
  • from Rigi Kulm to Vitznau / Weggis by cogwheel railway or aerial cableway

The timetables of the Rigi railways can be found here.

At the end of the route, I like to enjoy a hearty Rigi sausage at the Rigi Kulm Hotel.
